Use the tables below to see what shower heads and arms are compatible with each other. While many will work together we suggest you stay with the items that are marked 'Best'. Items marked 'Okay' will work together but may look odd together or not really compliment each other in function. While most of the 'NR' items will work with each other, we do not recommend them together. Items marked 'NO' will not work together at all. A few things to understand before buying an Adjustable Extension Arm. An adjustable arm is used to raise and lower your shower head. In order to hold the shower head in place, an adjustable shower arm relies on either friction or a locking mechanism. Most commonly, the friction is a very small washer squeezed between 2 small metal surfaces and tightened using a wing nut. The leverage of the shower arm with the weight of a shower head on the end of it can exert a lot of force on the joint and can cause the arm to droop. Over-tighten the joint and you'll deform the washer and it will leak. A better design is the washerless joint where the friction is actual metal-to-metal contact. You can tighten this type of joint as much as you want to hold the shower head and arm in place. Of course, if it's too tight then you can't move the shower arm up and down. Use too heavy of a shower head with a washerless extension arm and it becomes pretty much a non-adjustable arm. Also, it is possible to tighten the wing nut so much that you can snap the bolt (the bolts are brass, not steel.) The last type of adjustable extension arms are the locking arms. With a locking joint, you must first loosen the joint, then adjust the height of the head, and finally tighten the wing nut again. The wing nut does not have to be very tight, just enough so the joint doesn't leak. The arm is mechanically locked in place. In order to adjust the height, the water must be turned off to prevent it from spraying out through the loosened joint. Trying to move any adjustable shower arm when it is too tight or locked in place will probably end up bending the arm.
